Veterans Evaluation Services (VES): Who They Are & What They Do

Veterans Evaluation Services provides medical disability exams to Military Veterans for pension and compensation purposes. If you require a C&P exam to evaluate your medical disability, we can help you prepare and connect you with a Veteran Services Officer right here in El Paso County. VSOs can help you file a claim or an appeal but they will not walk you through a C&P exam. Ultimately, it is up to the VA to schedule C&P exams but there are many different contractors throughout the State of Colorado that administers the exams. However, it will depend on the claim filed as to where your exam or exams may be conducted.

VA Claim Exam: What is a C&P Exam?

The VA C&P Exam stands for Veteran Affairs Compensation and Pension. It is an exam performed at specified, authorized centers that document the severity of a particular condition to receive disability and DoD disability. The VA C&P exam is the first step to the VA Disability Process and the third step of the Integrated Disability Evaluation System. Sometimes, there will be more than one exam, but in many cases, there is only one required. During the C&P Exam report, the physician determines the diagnosis, notes the condition’s nature, and records any necessary measurements. Typically, the wait time for test results after a C&P exam is less than 21 days.

What Does a VA C&P Exam Consist of?

During the compensation and evaluation exams, you can expect to answer a lot of questions. The physician doesn’t treat anything, but rather looks to find out how severe the ailment is. The physician will ask you questions about the condition you’re experiencing, perform a basic exam, and possibly send you elsewhere for further testing. If you have any questions about what’s happening or anything in general, don’t hesitate to ask the physician to explain it to you.

VA C&P Exam Guide: What to Say & Not Say

To ensure you get the proper outcome for your condition, there are some dos and don’ts of the C&P exam. While we will never instruct you what not to tell a disability doctor, we can tell you to follow these simple guidelines.

  • Make sure you understand everything that is happening. Ask questions if you need to.
  • Be honest during the test.
  • Don’t downplay your symptoms.
  • Don’t exaggerate or make things up.
  • Get a copy of the exam.
  • Make a note of how long the exam took and write yourself notes about how thorough the doctor was.
  • Understand your options if the outcome isn’t as you would expect.
