Our Generalist Navigator assists with supportive social services and resourcing emergent needs such as housing support, utility resource assistance, financial classes and counseling, food, clothing and employment assistance, and resources to legal services. In order to provide superior non-clinical case management, the Generalist is constantly looking for creative ways to support Veterans, Service Members and their Families. The Generalist’s compassion and support provides a level of dignity and caring that is absolutely necessary during difficult times. In collaboration with community partners, the Generalist Navigator works to better assist with the ultimate goal of overcoming adversity and gaining sustainability.

Benefits

 

El Paso County Veteran Service Officer –

The VSO located at Mt. Carmel assists veterans and dependents in applying for benefits and navigating the many federal, state, and local resources that may be available to them. Whether it’s to file a disability claim, initiate or reopen a claim, order a discharge, award or decoration or to ask a specific question, the Veteran Service Officer is ready to help.

Eligibility: Veterans – post separation from military service.

El Paso County Department of Human Services –

DHS strives to protect our most vulnerable citizens while giving them efficient access to the services provided by local, state and federal governments. With the aim of keeping families together, the DHS assists in ways that will support the goal of being self-sufficient. DHS is available to discuss and help veterans who are applying for programs such as Medicaid and Food Assistance as well as other cash assistance and medical programs. The Mt. Carmel location is a smaller office geared toward offering one on one customer service.

Eligibility: Active Duty, Military, Veterans (regardless of discharge status, era of service, or disability, Family members and the general public. There is an income eligibility requirement for some services.

Financial Coaching, Education & Assistance

 

 

We recognize that a contributing factor to a person’s well-being and security is the health of their finances. To support the breadth of those needs, we have partnered with several providers who work directly with veterans and their families on more aspects of managing their financial needs.

Financial Coaching –

Free financial coaching is provided through financial coach, Liz Foster. Support helps change behaviors to achieve personal financial goals. Liz also assists in creating budgets and provides information to better manage personal finances.

VA Mortgage Education & Financing –

Through a strong partnership with LoanDepot, staff members volunteer at Mt. Carmel to assist veterans and their families with mortgage services, purchasing, refinancing and more. LoanDepot provides information about VA Renovation Mortgages,  the Renovation Loan and more.

Legal Support & Assistance

 

 

 

Mt. Carmel partners with several local legal advocacy groups and organizations to provide support to our clients on legal matters.

Pikes Peak Justice & Pro Bono Project –

Attorneys volunteer their time to assist veterans with civil legal matters by providing legal advice. Cases they can help with: Family Law, landlord cases, debt collection, harassed by debt collectors, disability SSI cases, overpayment from SSI cases, bankruptcy, foreclosure defense, probate planning & estate planning (wills), public benefits, food stamp issues, Veteran benefits, ID protection (can’t get drivers licenses, etc.). What they cannot help with: any fee generating cases (i.e. sue someone etc.).

Civil Legal Advice –

Attorneys from the Forbush Legal team volunteer to assist veterans with civil legal matters. Support includes: advice on family law,  probate (wills)/estate planning, debt collection, renter/landlord disputes and more.

Self-Represented Litigant Services 4th Judicial District –

Are you representing yourself in court? The Self-Represented Litigant Services volunteers are here to assist you in being as prepared for court as possible. The volunteers can’t offer advice as they are not lawyers, but they can assist self-represented litigants in the effective and efficient processing of court cases while educating self-represented litigants on court statutes, rules, policies and procedures within legal limitations to ensure that court cases are handled properly and expeditiously.

Veteran Higher Education Support

 

 

 

Education Counseling –

There are many different educational programs offered through the VA that are dependent on your individual service. There are many different career paths available to transitioned veterans that may require additional education. We’ve brought together the resources you need to sort this all out.

Through partnerships with University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and CSU Pueblo, Mt. Carmel is able to offer assistance in maneuvering through the GI Bill so that your benefit can be used effectively. When speaking to one of the educational partners, you will be able to identify what higher education institution (private or public) best fits your college goals.

Veteran’s Upward Bound –

This program is designed to motivate and assist veterans in the development of academic success in a program of postsecondary education. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas.

SecureSet Academy –

This program enrolls participants into a 20 week CORE Program taking individuals form Basic IT skills and transforms them into Mission Ready, Cybersecurity Professionals. Special programs thru Mt. Carmel include: resume review, internships, career skills programs and FREE cyber workshops.

Monetary donations are suggested.
